In this next installment of the “What is” series, FSJ writer Isabella explores the Operation Green club. It’s time to Go Green!
Have you ever wondered how your everyday routine could be affecting the world around you? Do you have an interest in making the world a cleaner, healthier place? Then, maybe it’s time for you to join Operation Green!
Operation Green is RACC’S environmental club that works to raise awareness of the relationships between human activity and the environment. Members of the club strive to promote a cleaner, more eco-friendly way of living and breaking habits that may be harmful to the earth.
Over the past couple of years, the club has orchestrated fundraisers and events to raise money for different organizations such as the Animal Rescue League. They have also participated in community service events, such as community clean ups. Operation Green also occasionally have guest speakers. Last year, they had a speaker from Nolde Forest, a state park in Berks County, come to one of their meetings! Operation Green has a few upcoming events in mind. This semester, Operation Green is running a bake sale, as well as other possible fundraisers, to save money in order to create Christmas gift bags containing eco-friendly water bottles for Elderly communities in Reading. They’re also planning another fundraiser for donations to the Animal Rescue League! They’re also planning a possible trip to the Wolf Sanctuary of PA for members of the club. There are more upcoming special events yet to be announced.
Overall, the club’s mission is to raise awareness on the importance of the environment and informing others of little things we all can do to contribute to creating a cleaner, healthier earth. If you’re interested in joining, their next meeting is on October 30th at 1:30PM in the Student Union Building. If you have any further questions, feel free to email the club’s advisor, Kristie Hudzik at Khudzik@racc.edu or the President, Kasey Hudzik, at email@example.com. We all want a safe and healthy environment in which to live. Let’s work together and make this goal a reality. “Be the green you want to see in the world!”
