Meet Your RACC Teachers: Joey Flamm-Costello

By Holly Keehn

As a part of our new ongoing series Meet Your RACC Teachers, FSJ writer Holly Keehn sat down with professor Joey Flamm-Costello to learn more about her both personally and professionally.

Joey has been a teacher here at Reading Area Community College for eleven years. She instructs students in writing and literature classes. The classes she teaches here include Creative Writing, English Composition, and Literature. Before coming to RACC, Joey taught at four other post-secondary colleges. Her favorite job of all time was being an elementary camp counselor in Pittsburg, Pa. when she was younger. She said counseling was a very fun time in her life and took many fond memories away with her.

Outside of work, Joey has many writing projects that she hopes to publish, including a young adult novel. Along with her love of writing comes her love of having a nice glass of dry red wine while reading a good book. Traveling is also a passion she holds close to her heart. Joey loves having a good adventure which sometimes involves trying new foods and drinks, or learning more about and enjoying other people’s cultures.

For the past twenty-five years, Joey has been with her husband, Christopher Costello, who is also a teacher here at RACC. She has a fifteen-year-old son named Cormick. She said she does not have any pets at the moment, but remarked, “that was going to have to change soon.” Joey would like the students at RACC to know that she believes in what she teaches. She said It’s like her religion – writing, reading, literature – she is very passionate about it all. She wants her students to see the value of themselves and the value in their writing and know that she sees the value in her student’s as well.Holly and Joey.jpg
